Abstract: In this article the notion of modality and taxonomy is analyzed, as well as the concept of education and pedagogy. The interrelationship between different types of modality and the structure and functions of education and pedagogy is shown. Also the consequences of modality-oriented analysis of education for determining the process of its designing and achieving its goals is indicated, as well as the effects on pedagogy resulting from widening the range of its analysis. Special emphasis has been put to subjective modalities (epistemic, wishful) and spiritual modalities (anthropological and deontic).
