Abstract: | This article is devoted to evolution of secondary prepositions of temporal importance, which were based on spatial values e.g. koło, blisko, w przeci!gu. The relation between the spatial and time content should be considered as one of the most lasting semantic relation-ships, perceived not only in terms of genetic bonds but, ' rst and foremost, considered a longlasting semantic correlation, since most of the prepositions in study retain a semantic paral-lel and are of both spatial and temporal nature. This permanent relation between the spatial and temporal meanings creates a specifi c context for changes occurring within the discussed preposition group. However, the varied changes may lead to a loss of relation between both values or induce the temporal content of prepositions to become independent and create new qualities. The analyzed material was chosen mainly from historical dictionaries and comple-mented by excerpts from selected texts. |
