Przebranie czy ubranie? : „Godzina pąsowej róży” jako „powieść o ciuchach”

Abstract

The author ponders the meaning of clothing in the novel by Maria Krüger Godzina pąsowej róży („The Hour of the Crimson Rose”). The main character moves from the year 1960 to 1880. In the times of belle époque she has to wear clothes that are uncomfortable and restrict her movements. The most painful for her is the corset. The author of the article suggests that the corset symbolizes not only physical, but also social restrictions of the heroine of the novel. The epoch she moved into is too narrow for her. She tries to go back to her times mainly because of the loss of freedom of clothing and restrictions created by social conventions.
