Abstract

The article concerns on the genre of popular literature – serialized novel. The object of the analysis are selected novels published in installments that ran in popular magazines and newspapers in the years 1918–1989. The text presents the origins and evolution of the newspaper story. Deeply discussed, among others, are issues of subject matter, scope and type of reading, which forces the serialized novel , the question of critical reviews of this type of literature and its impact on reading. The most important characteristics of this species were massive reception and newspaper localization. Analysis of the fundamental categories leads to the conclusion that in today’s media characteristics of serialized novel can be observed in many different forms. The essay thesis revolves around a recognition that serialized novel found its continuation in other periodical forms, present in contemporary literature and popular culture.
