dc.description.abstract | Islam is a religion that has been interested in animal welfare from its beginning;
well ahead of other comparable religions in regards to its approach to living creatures.
This article is devoted primarily to the subject of ritual slaughter practiced in modern
Muslim culture. At the beginning, the author cites the main principles of respect for animals
resulting from the Quaran and Sunnah. Then she analyzes the problem of dhabihah
slaughter, its legality and the ethical and practical controversy it raises in many countries
in the twenty-first century. At the end, she wonders if this type of practice, backed by
centuries of tradition, and the words of modern specialists in religious law, are consistent
with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, the basis of the religion. | pl_PL |
