| Abstrakt: | The essay deals with the Polish translation of William Robertson’s The History of America, which was translated by Jacek Jezierski and published in 1789. The Polish version, Historyja odkrycia Ameryki przez Kolumba…, is discussed both in the historical and geographical settings of Columbus’ time as well as in relation to the dramatic history of the Great Sejm. The author also reflects on the reasons why the book is absent from bibliographies, and offers biographical sketches of Robertson and Jezierski. |
