Abstract

Kazimierz Przerwa‑Tetmajer remained a bachelor till the very last days of his life although he wanted to get married several times. Being a bachelor is thus his fundamental experience, also determining his opinions on family. The author of Skalne Podhale looks at the world, people and relations between them only from the perspective of a bachelor and this is a key issue here. Another problem is an attempt to define who a bachelor is and what “being a bachelor” means. The simple term requires respecting a series of historical, cultural and social relations. Hence, there is a criticism of the simple identifications, and clear identity diagnoses. The state of a bachelor codepends on the vision and a way of understanding the rules constituting the institution of family. Tetmajer’s works illustrate these bachelor‑family complications very well.
