dc.description.abstract | The following article focuses on life and work of Erika Mann — an author,
cabaret-performer, reporter and a daughter of Nobel Prize laureate, Thomas
Mann. Her texts are not familiar to Polish audience because of a lack of translation.
However, the themes she touches upon are still current — she ponders
upon the psychological condition of theatre people, comments on the theatres’
offer that responds to not very sophisticated tastes of the theatre goers and
draws one’s attention to the fact that people of art must compromise in order
to obtain funds allowing them to live. The analysis of her columns should also
provide information regarding literary devices used by Mann to express her
irritation and disgust. The historical and biographical background will show
the breakthrough in perceiving a woman’s space in the middle-class society of
Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. | pl_PL |
