Abstract: The humor is defined as a way of presenting, judging or commenting reality, emphasizing the comical or ridiculous side of things in different situations and with different objectives. For the Polish people, humor has always served as a tool to face reality in difficult moments of their history. The hypothesis of the present study is to demonstrate the motivating and unifying role performed by this tool at the time of real socialism in Poland. After briefly outlining the situation and specific conditions of real socialism in this country, we will try to show how the Polish People utilized humor to resist the system and to maintain self-esteem and common sense at these absurdist times. Taking into account that socialism is an ideology that provides equal rights, opportunities and happiness to all human beings, and that real socialism was its direct opposite refusing, in fact, these virtues to all its citizens, we decided that Maslow Pyramid of Needs will serve as a useful tool to organize our study.
