Abstract: Raising the issue of Silesian specificity and its social conditions, the author of the article focuses on the most characteristic ones: work, family and religion in relation to the moral norms. First she points to historical factors of Silesian specificity. Traditional work ethics and value of family remain a contribution of the older and middle generation. For young generation family is value and its specificity consists in cultivating some traditional behaviours. The specificity of traditional Silesian religiousness has been retained to the greatest extent although it undergoes big changes in this very sphere in young generation. The author concludes that the retention of Silesian specificity depends on the community type. It is present to a large extent in small communities in which native people dominate and does not exist in bigger towns with a diversified composition of people.
