Abstract: Using the principles of the New Education movement, the author directs our attention to extremely important aspects of child education. However known and obvious they may be for the majority of teachers, they are still worth emphasizing because they remain topical, mainly in contemporary music education. What we have in mind is primarily teaching through active, creative personal experience, which engages all the senses. Moreover, it is necessary to support a harmonious and comprehensive child’s development within the range of broadly understood culture, especially that connected with native folklore. Although slightly marginalized recently, education through art, including music and dance, seems to have been a part of these assumptions for many years. The article provides information on music education of pre-school children and the currently used systems of music education derived from the principles of New Education, mainly in the context of their folklore inspirations, premises and possible applications. We can also find information concerning the practical application of folk dance as one of the forms relevant for the shaping of the systems of values, which is connected with the sense of identity and the ability to discover oneself in particular culture.
