Abstract: Katarzyna Ponikowska‑Cichoń confronts a classic notion of utopia, both an escapist one, dreaming about the past and calling for its restitution and a heroic one referring to the past (referring to both the past and the future), activating both individuals and masses with a modern (postmodern) way of functioning a utopian thinking. The author, claiming bankruptcy of all ideologies in the period of fluid post‑modernity, at the same time is against dissociating oneself from the category of utopia. She proves that the need to change the world for better still accompanies people and considers an exemplification of reviving religious communities or ecological movements. As Ponikowska‑Cichoń claims, utopias are still present in reality, following the Foucault’s heterotopia.
