Authors: Fontański, Henryk
Keywords: język łemkowski; Łemkowie
Issue Date: 2014
Publisher: Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Śląskiego
Abstract: The Study presented in this monograph focuses on syntactic units and constructions of the contemporary Lemko speech – one of the Slavic languages used in Poland, officially recognised as a minority language. The study is based on Lemkos’ written records published since the mid-twentieth century as well as a number of earlier texts representative of literary standards of the contemporary Lemko language. The description is based on the theory of functional linguistics put forward by Galina Zolotova. Main assumptions of her theory are discussed in the first chapter. A Significant part of this study (i.e. chapter two) includes a dictionary of syntactic forms of Lemko nouns. Chapter three and four are devoted respectively to categorial meanings and syntactic functions of Lemko verbs and predicatives. The fifth chapter presents basic types of Lemko monopredicative sentences while subsequent four chapters focus on phase, modal and subject modifications of monopredicative sentences as well as constructions introducing polypredicativity: modal frames, means of authorisation and causation. Chapter ten is devoted to the ways of expressing coordinate relationships, and the final eleventh chapter presents types of complex sentences in the Lemko dialect.
