Abstract

The text is a transcript of a conversation the author conducted with former director of Correctional Facility and Shelter for Juveniles in Zawiercie — Kazimierz Ptak, M.A. eng. The appeal to the memory of a person who for more than half a century was associated with institutions of rehabilitation, helped reconstruct the events and to recall the people involved in building the system of rehabilitation in Poland. Kazimierz Ptak, the educator who work with maladjusted girls made his mission, reminds the period of Polish People’s Republic and the organizational difficulties of that time, as well as the turn of the 80s and 90s and the first years of the transformation of the socio-political system. He shows how the conditions of stay in the correctional facility have evolved, as well as the approach to the foster children, what innovative educational methods were introduced. The reader receives the history of institutional rehabilitation in a nutshell.
