Abstract

The article discusses the activity of Archive of University of Silesia which functions since 1968. A special attention is paid to the Archive’s activity after the year 1998, which began the period of changes and development of the entity. In 1998 the Archive was separated in the structure of the University and named a common-university organization unit of University of Silesia, obtaining its own statute regulating the range electronic check-in of the collection and liquidation of its dispersion through the centralization and elaboration of standards adjusted to the new regulations of qualifying and classifying the documentation. The article also approaches the general rules of the functioning and the way of running the University of Silesia Archive. The characterized activity shows how wide is the range of works carried out and how much has been already achieved thanks to the commitment and adequate qualifications of Archive’s staff. It indicates as well how many tasks are still to be realized so that the Archive could fulfill all its functions.
