Abstract

The article describes the computerized service of the University of Silesia readers between 1992 and 2008. It presents all activities connected with collecting, cataloguing and indexing and circulation of own resources (books and journals) and activities connected with creating the back-up facilities for effective use of controlled, licensed information collections provided on the optical carriers, access to the controlled information websites by means of the Internet, ways of popularizing the teaching materials in university libraries network. The article presents organization, technical and license aspects of computer systems, it indicates the activities leading to incorporating the whole library system to the uniform system of the University management.
