Abstract

In the article there was described the specificity of the subject cataloguing with the use of UDC symbols. There were presented the stages of the indexers’ work, possible difficulties arousing when classifying the documents, as well as several ways of managing the problem. Some works connected with the reclassification of the UDC symbols were presented. The plan to use UDC symbols to create new signatures were pointed out. They will be used in open shelves that are anticipated in the new University of Silesia Library building.
