Realia historyczne powieści Stanisława Helsztyńskiego "Uczeń Amosa. Opowieść o Janie Amosie Komeńskim"

Abstract

The article contains a study of selected historical realia in the novel by Stanisław Helsztyński (1891-1986), who was an English scholar, professor of the Warsaw University, poet and novelist, the author oi Amos’s Disciple. This has been, so far, the only Polish historical novel devoted to Comenius’s life, and it has not yet received, proper attention. The author deals here with the preface to the novel written by Helsztyński, and with those chapters of the novel that concern the Swedish ‘Deluge’, particularly the passages treating of the tragic fate of the congregation of the Moravian Brethren in Leszno, confronting a novelistic vision with the latest findings of history specialists.
