Abstract: Medallions and coins struck by the Roman emperors Numerian and Carinus in the Siscia mint (283) are a supplement to the scarce ancient records about the events that took place during the reign of the last dynasty in power at the time of the third century crisis. Nevertheless, the discussion on a TRIVNFV QVADOR type medallion shows how difficult it is to use the analysis of its iconography and the inscription on the reverse to get to the essence of the historical facts referred to on the artefact. The discussed example serves to illustrate how complex the issue of the Roman rulers’ triumph in the second half of the third century really is. It also reveals certain unclear points and indicates political and ideological changes that took place at the time.
