Abstrakt: | Krzysztof II, younger son of Krzysztof Radziwiłł, known as „Thunderbolt”, was very
carefully educated during the course of foreign studies, principally in Germany. After returning to
his own country, as the protector of Protestantism in Lithuania he paid special attention to the
development of Calvinist education, setting up schools and financing foreign studies for talented
youngsters. We can tell something about these educational journeys which he sponsored from,
among other things, the letters of Baltazar Krośniewicz, who acted as intermediary between the
prince and the students.
Krzysztof II also took care to supervise the intellectual development of his own son, as he is
evidenced by the „parental instructions” which have been preserved, while he himself evinced
scientific interests, chiefly in military matters and fortification. |
