Abstract: The paper concerns the procedure of a "quote from reality" and the attempts to phonematisation of the literary language found in the works of Polish neo-avant-garde writers of 1960s and 1970s (e.g. works by L. Buczkowski, M.Białoszewski, R. Schubert). Those writers did not see the possibility of establishing of border between the spheres of the literacy and extraliteracy. As a rezult, the literary text was no longer perceived as the area of a dialectic between heterogeneous elements, but as a "borderline case" of the literature, a spatialised demarcation line. In turn, the postmodern metafiction uses fingered quotes to emphasize the narrative character of all non-literary texts and statements (e.g. "Wieloryb" by Jerzy Limon). In contrast to the anti-literary nature of neo-avant-garde prose, postmodernism exposes its metafictionality.
