Język XVII-wiecznej konwersacji : na przykładzie "Wydwornego polityka" Macieja Gutthatera-Dobrackiego

Abstract

Maciej Gutthâter-Dobracki’s Wydwomy polityk, originally destined for foreigners learning the Polish language, is a manual of correct linguistic behaviour in various communicational situations. In the discussed book we may find standard forms of greeting and of starting a conversation, model conversations on everyday topics, and also short incidental speeches directed at various state and church officials. On the basis of Dobracki’s work, we may reconstruct the model of the 17th c. social conversation, consonant with the principles of the then etiquette derived from the nobility’s mores. The variety of the spoken language presented here is conditioned by the nature of official contacts, hence the construction of the sentences, forms of address, even certain lexical units, appear here as conventionalised structures belonging to the approved canon of the linguistic etiquette.
