Abstract: The mountain river valleys are one of floristically the richest terrestrial ecosystems. Characteristically shaped mountain rivers valleys create conditions for a broad spectrum of species. Increased anthropogenic impact destroys habitats of many valuable species of plants, so the aim of this research is to ascertain whether valley of the Soła river can be the habitat for montane element of flora. The Soła river crosses the Żywiec Basin in the Silesian province. In order to reach the aim of this paper, the river valley was divided into 10 the best preserved sections. In these sections the species were noted on the river banks. Eleven mountain species with different frequency were located along the river however only 4 them were evenly distributed. The presence of the montane flora in the river valley indicates that the suitable habitats are preserved but in very irregular degree.
