| Abstract: | The article studies one of the oldest written genres: a letter. The author enumerates four types of the genre: the applied letter, rhetorical letter (from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque), official letter and literary letter (including its poetic form). The term — letter — contains various types of texts and their functions, as the limits of the genre are historically fluctuant and unstable. |
