Abstract

Czerniak reviews relationship between the world of human beings and animals, which has been established in Christian tradition. By denying that man is ontologically privileged he overthrows commonly accepted value system that classifies and establishes hierarchies in surrounding reality in terms of self-awareness and spiritual elements. He is convinced that the less significant the role of self-awareness and spirituality is, the more perfect and coherent life becomes. Thus, in his poetry, man whose soul is the most essential part of his being, is below animal in the hierarchy. Animals become ‘subjects’ and the poet goes beyond anthropocentric perspective by recognizing corporality as value which is a common ground for people and animals.
