Abstract: Schulz and Simulacra is an analysis of a short essay by Bruno Schulz entitled Mityzacja rzeczywistości (Mythologizing of Reality). Michał Kłosiński explores Schulz’s theoretical essay in the search of points where it is at its most ambivalent, and where this ambivalence works against the text’s cohesion. He interprets such concepts as sense, myth, and poetry, exhibiting how the author of Mythologizing… redefines them within his poetics. The main goal of the analysis is to show that Schulz’s theory does not indicate the concept of simulacrum, but rather another category of Baudrillard’s — the symbolic exchange. Kłosiński finds evidence for the possibility of such a reading in an example brought up by Schulz — a cut-up snake body from the legend — and in a poetic mechanism, which Schulz labels a “short-circuit of sense.” All in all, the author analyses Schulz’s views on poetry and presents the manner in which mythologizing as a poetic activity opposes simulation and excess of meaning gener¬ated by it, in order to perpetually restore the link with reality
