Obraz bibliotek publicznych oraz czytelnictwa w województwie śląskim w latach 2000-2007

Abstract

On the basis of statistical data the demographic changes (a decreasing number of birth rate, a lengthening age of living), professional preferences (an increase in the employment in services) and developing level of education of people in towns and villages in the Silesian voivodship are presented. Against this background the cultural activity of citizens (rates for cinemas, theatres, museums and music house) and readership in public libraries financed by the self-governments in municipal and district counties was shown. The rates advised by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions were contrasted with those used in town and district libraries within the scope of the number of citizens sharing one library and number of books bought from the self-government budget. The article indicates the places of high and low rates.
