Linia tramwajowa jako element krajobrazu kulturowego wschodnich dzielnic Sosnowca

Abstract

Primarily factor of forming the cultural landscape of eastern districts of Sosnowiec was agriculture. In the second half of the twentieth century, there was also another factor – coal mining. There was lack of the public transport, settlements were expanding as independent ones. Although in the nineteenth century for some of the settlements, the railway lines were brought but in the local connections it did not play the significant role. The situation changed in fifties, when the tram line was built. Today’s eastern districts of the city have gained easy access to the city of Sosnowiec. Tramway has become a kind of “window on the world”, what has a big influence on current position of tram lines in the minds of people and the importance of local identity. As a result, tram line has become the permanent element of this landscape thanks to: specific kind of settlement system – insularity of settlements, proper historical moment for building tram line, formation (creation) in the resident’s minds the importance of the role of the tram for improving their living conditions and the process of the transformation in the nineties.
