Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the concept of developing monologue speaking skills in a foreign language, which has been worked out by the authors of the German language textbook Stufen International. The exercises and tasks for monologue speaking included in the textbook have been evaluated by a group of students in order to demonstrate if they can be effectively used during German language lessons. At the beginning of the article, the function of monologue speaking skills in foreign language teaching has been described and an attempt has been made to distinguish their particular characteristic features.
