Abstract: The term Lavender linguistics has been introduced into the international linguistic discourse. It focuses on the language used by gays, lesbians, transsexual, bisexual and queer persons (LGBTQ). Lavender language has been recently discovered by Polish linguists who describe its different aspects, such as: pragmatics, grammar, style, genre. The answer to the question raised in the title of the article is not unequivocal. It seems that ‘open’ linguistics, combining many trends, with no methodological limitations enables a complex description of the LGBT people, language and communication practice, so a new discipline does not need to be created. However, the author of the article proves the usefulness of the Lavender linguistics term to describe the cognitive aspect of the research. It can be also used to integrate the researchers interested in the subject.
