Abstract: | The aim of this study is to demonstrate the motivating factors for learning the Polish language among children coming from Roma minority. To better comprehend Romas’ attitudes towards Polish, as well as the process of its acquisition, we discuss factors such as Romas’ ethnic origin, their culture, traditions, language and social roles. The research analyses the results of the survey, which was conducted in the group of Roma pupils. The children’s answers allow for drawing conclusions about their attitude and motivation for learning Polish. Consequently, the paper investigates Romas’ approach towards compulsory schooling and their motivation for learning in general. |
