| Abstract: | The article interprets Małgorzata Szejnert’s Wyspa Węży [The Island of Snakes]. A family secret became an inspiration for this book. Again, the reporter looks at history from the angle of individual people’s experiences. This time, however, the subject of the story is an infamous episode of World War II, taking place on the island of Bute. Szejnert writes about powerlessness faced with history, poor choices, human weaknesses and the inability to find an answer to all the bothering questions from the past. |
