Wątki fantastyczne w staropolskiej twórczości sowizdrzałów i babińczyków

Abstract

The goal of this sketch is to emphasize the uniqueness of fantastic motifs manifest in old Polish texts by humorists representing the European Till Eulenspiegel tradition, which gave rise to the phenomena of the Polish sowizdrzał (Eulenspiegel) and Babinian literature. While the author points to the similarity of dominant themes, she simultaneously emphasizes vital differences in the immanent poetics characterizing the works by the sowizdrzałs and that typical of the writings by authors representing the oeuvre of the late 16th-century humorist society called The Republic of Babin. In her article, the author argues that the differences observed may derive from the essential dissimilarities separating the two cultural milieus which produced the texts under study.
