Abstract

The text pivots around the doctrinal arguments tackled in prefaces and acknowledgementsof two Old Polish editions, including one abridged edition, of the collectionsof sermons by the Jesuit writer. The analyses thereof focus on the ways in which thetexts in question attempt to prove the unique character and “antiquity” of the Romanconfession. Apart from the praises of Catholicism the clergyman’s advice are equallynoteworthy, particularly those on combating doubt in creed. All is complemented byobservations on the representation of an infidel as depicted by Jakub Wujek in terms ofthe editorial elements of the editions discussed.
