Abstract

Humour permeates human life. It accompanies us when we feel good and bad because of its provable medical and psychological effects and its ability to influence our relationships with other people. As an omnipresent phenomenon, humour unites cultures and generations, coming in many different forms. Humour frequently stems from a mixture of verbal, non-verbal, extralinguistic, and intercultural factors. It is also one of the most original result-oriented communication forms as it principally aims at interacting with its recipient in order to elicit a specific reaction. The aim of the article is therefore to investigate the nature of humour, its types, functions, and characteristics, and its research possibilities.
