| Abstract: | The article constitutes an attempt to compare tendencies in female first names in 1950 and 2010 in Knurów and Rybnik. The anthroponymic material collected in selected Silesian towns is presented in the light of a Poland‑wide list of the most popular first names and contrasted with the studies conducted during the last 60 years in other regions. Apart from discussing the most popular personal names the attempt was made to show the motives of choices of the most popular female first names, as well as define the reasons of popularity fluctuation in the case of some of them. |
