dc.description.abstract | What Stanisław Brzozowski, Witold Gombrowicz and Czesław Miłosz have in common
is a critical attitude towards Henryk Sienkiewicz and quotes essays as well as sketches
of the authors in question where they sometimes have a heated and uncompromising
argument with Sienkiewicz. The very argument transforms into a fundamental discussion
on the nature of the Polish literature and culture, on the role of the poet and writer
in this culture. Henryk Sienkiewicz.
Thus, neither Gombrowicz’s call “Let us not ignore Sienkiewicz” should surprise
anyone nor the fact that Miłosz considered the issue of Sienkiewicz as obligatory for the
Polish writer and intellectualist. | pl_PL |
