| Abstract: | The sketch analyses the report from Stanisław Tarnowski’s journey in Pomorze and Warmia published in the book Z wakacji (Kraków 1888). The very report does not devote much time to the subject of family. However, it was important because of a cognitive and ideological function. It made it easier for the author to explain, and the reader to get familiarised with, the current situation of Poles in Prussia. Tarnowski provided a reader with the positive examples. Opposing stereotypes, he showed happy families who have an idée fixe and “bite off more than one can chew,” and who saved the image of homeland in their hearts and minds despite being distanced from it. |
