Abstract

The article contains analysis and interpretation of the poem Zejście („The Descent”) by Stanisław Grochowiak from the volume Kanon („Canon”). The title descent means going down into the mine of childhood. The inrtospection, symbolic equivalency, subconsciousness penetration which accompany this and use of spatial categories for describing psychical states are of romantic and neoromantic origin. However, as the author stresses, the poet clearly modifies the traditional patterns. In the article there is also examined the realization of the memory mythifying process, reaching the underground nooks of memory — the coal scenes from the childhood
