Abstract

"The sea is not a long way from love and its goddess, as if the energy of the erotic was nourished by the force of the aquatic. In Hesiod, the story of love and its divinity, Aphrodite, is inseparable not only from the “restless, white-capped sea”, but it is also clearly emphasized that the originary location of love has nothing to do with the land: what is “thrown” into the sea is cast, the poet maintains, from the sky “clear of mainland”."
