Czy wyrok zapada co rok, a gody obchodzi się w zgodzie? O zaskakujących źródłosłowach

Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the early relationships between the etymon and its derivatives which with the course of time semantically separated themselves from their origins. O n the basis of the etymology and the early meanings which are included in, inter alia, historical dictionaries, the author presents the semantic development of selected words and reveals the early relationships between the lexemes which originally belonged to the same word‑formative cluster. The text is devoted to the words motivated by the lexeme rok (’a year’) in the Polish language (inter alia: wyrok, prorok, urok, uroczystość, rokować) and by the element ‑god‑, which is the basis of not only the word gody but also of such lexemes as zgoda, ugoda, godzina, pogoda, godło.
