Abstract

The book is composed of seven parts each of which is devoted to a separate poem. The discussed poems are: Sroczość (The ąuałity o f being a magpie), and Moja wierna mowo(Oh, my faithfulspeech!) by Czesław Miłosz, Podłogo, błogosław (Oh, bless usyou floor!) and Kabaret Kici Koci (The „Pusssy, pussy" cabaret) by Miron Białoszewski, Język, to dzikie mięso (The tongue is a wild meat) by Ryszard Krynicki, and U końca wojny dwudziestodwuletniej (At the end o f a twenty two year war), and Tłum, który tłumi i tłumaczy (A crowd which supresses and explains) by Stanisław Barańczak. Each chapter contains Remarks about reading, which delimit the possibilities of interpretation and constitute a kind of mechanism waiting to be individually set into motion with regard to various cognitive, biographic, and intertextual aspects. The chapters also contain the following sections: Contexts, References and Continuations, Varietes o f the text, Materials, Biographic notes about the authors. Each chapter is arranged according to the degree of difficulty. The studying of the book can be limited to a particular level of difiiculty, depending on the leamer’s advancement in Polish studies, whether he or she be a pupil, a student, or a teacher of Polish. The purpose of the work in question is to provide a sufficient amount of leaming materiał that could be used at lessons of Polish or for university classes.
