Abstract

The analysis of transsexual diaries and memoires proves that man suffering from sex identification confusion is exposed to the sense of shame more often than others. It is not only that he/she experiences it in this way and in such situations as other people, but its living condition makes things, which in the case of other people are daily activities no one pays attention to, bigger and more problematic than they seem. The suspension between shame and disgust marks every single and even the simplest life decision with pain. Sometimes the choice is just between different causes of shame. A transsexual treats behaviours appropriate to the biological sex as shameful, but a discovery of actions appropriate to the sex he/she feels humiliates or, what is more, shames him/her. The sense of inner dilemma between the socially accepted and the desired seems to be invincible. The greatest sanction here is shame.
