Abstract

This article represents a multicontext interpretation of Hymn on a spoonful of soup by Jozef Wittlin. Attention is drawn to the unusual conjoining of two concepts in the title: „hymn” and „spoon”. Each of these calls on a different literary tradition, aesthetics, hierarchy of values. In this poem two visions of the rowld conflict. This work shows the Wittlin version of an experiment in the Skamander tradition. It also gives evidence of the breakthrough in Polish poetry of the XX century — from the abstract sublime to the pleasure of the concrete. It also anticipates the post World War II sensualist trend in lyric poetry.
