Abstract: | The analysis of Leśmian’s works dominated by motifs of the passing time, old age, and death proved
that, according to this poet, it is not life experience or - as we usually think about this poetry - life
itself, instinctively overcoming the limitations of intellect, culture, and body, but “dodatek X” (accompaniment
X): a rebelious, creative human gesture, action, emotion, idea. Intensive, active experience
of the world and one’s own subjectivity, dependent on man’s will to outstand what is average, and one’s
courage to encounter the Unknown.
Therefore, Leśmian’s praise of “dodatek X” (accompaniment X) is an apology of a pure chance
that does not know any necessity or determinism, the unexpected that escapes causation, the Unpredictable
thanks to which every mortal being may life its life in its own, special, individual way that
creatively differentiates it from all the others. |
