Abstract: The traditional humanities have lost their position in the modern soci- ety because the value of symbolic capital of literature and culture has decreased. The contemporary position of the humanities is the result, on the one hand, of the deconstruction of the grand narratives, objec- tive truth, universal knowledge, and the common interpretation of the world in the spirit of constructivism, perspectivism, narrativism, and on the other hand, the result of the development of neoliberal society. The change is occurring in literary studies as well. Ethics and moral criteria are replaced by ideological and political ones. One of the possible ways of the development of Croatian Studies Abroad is comparative-transla- tion studies, studies about Polish-Croatian literary and cultural contacts conducted in the wider historical/social/political context, hence a com- parative study in different discourses with the literary discourse as the most important one.
