Abstract: The article deals with proper nouns in Jana Lechoń’s poetry with particular emphasis on anthroponyms, which are important means in the unwritten poetics of the author of Karmazynowy poemat [The Poem in Scarlet] because of being timeless and because their meaning is constantly expanding. The author of the article notes that under the mask of propria are hidden the events from the poet’s life as well as the tragic fate of the Skamander poet’s contemporary Poland. Moreover, it has been indicated that using proper names related to different traditions and cultural orders can be perceived as a manifestation of being at a loss and searching for the sense of belonging. Since propria carry broad connotative associations, Kiszka-Pytel argued that their analysis might be one of the interpretative paths of poetry.
