Abstract

The article aims at characterising the style of one of the American independent cinema’s most prominent representatives, that is, Wes Anderson – the forerunner of New Sincerity in film. While carrying out a systematic overview of Anderson’s hitherto completed works, the author points to both, key leitmotifs (e.g. childhood, family relations) and the formal measures devised by him (e.g. his use of colour). What proves to be especially important in this context is the manner in which cinematic space is utilised by the director, whose use thereof follows the principles of theatrical exposition.
